If you want to know how do you download songs onto an iPod from CD using the iTunes software, I’ve listed here an overview of how I downloaded songs and copy CD to iPod.
1. First, I downloaded the iTunes software. Though I already had a media player installed on my PC from Windows, I knew this would not work with my iPod, as you can only download stuff to your iPod with iPod compatible software. Then when I clicked on the downloaded file, I just followed the on-screen instructions to install it.
2. Once this was installed, I put my iPod onto the dock and plugged it into my PC’s USB port and the iPod started charging. Whilst charging (it takes about 4 hours to fully charge), the iPod set-up assistant came up asking you to name your iPod. And also gives you a few options to check/un-check. I un-check the “automatically update music” as I don’t want to auto synchronize (sync) my iPod whenever I connect it to my PC. (This gives more manual control as to what you have on your iPod). Then you can register your iPod (you can do this later if you wish), then click “Finish”.
3. In the left-hand panel of your iTunes you will see your iPod device with the name you gave it, click on it to see your music list, which at the moment will be blank. So to get some music onto you iPod from a CD, first insert the CD into your computer’s CD drive. The list of songs will appear in the iTunes main window - you can import the whole CD into you iTunes player or de-select any songs you don’t want to import. Then click on ‘Import CD’ button at the bottom. Once this is done - and it takes no time at all - click the Eject button in the bottom right-hand corner to eject the CD.
** If you import your CDs whilst being online then, if the album details are available, iTunes will automatically update the album or track details. You can also manually edit the names by highlighting the name and click on it once to make it a text box.
4. Now when you click on the ‘Library’ then the ‘Music’ link on the left panel you will be able to see the music you’ve just imported in your iTunes library. Now to download songs onto an iPod, in the main panel ‘drag and drop’ the whole album or track onto your iPod symbol in the left-hand panel. You’ll see the progress of the music being copied onto the iPod at the top.
5. Once this is done, and again this doesn’t take long. Click on the eject iPod button in the bottom right hand corner - this ensures the iPod is properly disconnected from the PC, then unplug it from the dock, plug in your earphones and enjoy!
As you can see, the process is straight-forward. For the moment I’ve only detailed importing and downloading CDs onto an iPod. But I’ll be writing about downloading songs bought online onto an iPod soon. I hope that this quick tutorial on how do you download songs onto an iPod using iTunes helps you; though if you have more complicated issues with your iTunes or iPod downloads I’d recommend you check out the iTunes website.
